WHAT IS INVOLVED IN MAINTENANCE OF A 220-YEAR-OLD HOME?
Nothing out of the ordinary, really.
There is a big misconception in general that people think older homes require a lot more maintenance than newer ones.
In the current owner's tenure at The Mansion House for the past 20 years (and most items have been completed in the last 5 years) the things that they have replaced or repaired are things that could need maintenance in any home, no matter the age: faucets, roof, water softener, new pressure tank and pressure switches, updated outdoor lamp, windows, sump pump.
As far as the foundation or the movement that is visible in this home it is probably safe to assume that this house
is structurally sound simply because it is still standing after 220 years. Most engineers will report that settling
typically happens in the first few years up to 10 years from initial construction. *Neither the seller/owner, nor the listing agent/brokerage are structural engineers, and the generalized perspective contained herein is based on industry experience and is not a professional opinion of the current structure. Buyer is advised to hire a professional for an independent opinion on this specific home.
Simply put the houses on this site have been here for 200+ years. Can you find a house that was built in the last 10 or 20 years
that you believe will still be standing 200 years from now?
